Aerofoil is a small, free application for netbooks running Windows 7 and Vista. The program reduces your netbook’s power consumption whenever it is running on battery.
The program can extend your netbook’s battery life basically by switching off some Windows features when your netbook is running on batteries and is not plugged in. Switching these unwanted features off will extend the battery life by anywhere from 10% to 25%.
Aerofoil lets you also manage your netbook’s power plans. When the program is running in the background, it can switch the netbook power plan depending on whether the device is plugged in or not.

It can be scheduled to run at startup. From the Aerofoil icon present in the system tray, you can quickly toggle the Windows Aero Glass interface on and off. Disabling it conserves CPU resources thus increasing battery life.
Aerofoil extends Vista and Windows 7 notebook battery life by:
- Allowing you to manually disable Aero Glass.
- Optionally managing Aero Glass user interface.
- Optionally managing sound muting.
- Optionally managing your chosen power plans.
- Optionally managing Windows Sidebar.
- Optionally showing a quick hibernate button.
- Changing icon colour to show whether on battery or AC.
