ClamAV is free software application produced by Immunet Corporation and Source fire. Inc. It is primarily developed for advanced cloud-based and community-based detection methods. ClamAV is a cloud-based technology antivirus which involves detection methods to act effectively in securing the computers of friends, family and worldwide global community. It provides a fast and light layer of virus detection and linking everyone in the global community.
It is designed mainly to provide the ClamAV community with windows Anti-virus solution that incorporates all the standard desktop anti-virus features to avoid the breach of security, confidentiality, integrity in cloud based technology. ClamAV includes on Access Scanning, on Demand Scanning, Quarantine, cloud-based engine, community based protection and companion mode protection features and Removal.
What is cloud-based antivirus?
Instead of installing an antivirus setup in a single netbook to attack against spyware and malware, sending the data/file to the server or network to analysis or quarantine the data remains more helpful in the battle against malicious threats. This type of anti-virus will protect each netbook that are connected to the network by creating a global community among friends, families and relatives.
History
It is developed by researchers at the University of Michigan, a new cloud-based approach to antivirus (AV) to provide a higher degree in detecting malware than traditional antivirus software. Nowadays, antivirus installed in netbook are less effective against malware and malicious threats. The threats and virus are very difficult to calculate and it takes more time to detect such malwares. To resolve this, ClamAV provides anti-virus protection with an in-cloud network service to disable the threats. It uses a light-weight host agent which runs on end-points that identifies new files and sends them to a network service for analysis.

The cache copy in the ClamAV scans the files and directories to detect viruses even when netbook is not connected to internet. And the cache copy is updated when internet is connected.
