Evolution is an open source software package (function) which acts as a personal information manager and workgroup information management tool for your netbook. It is mix of email, calendar, and address book and task list management. It is primarily connected to Microsoft exchange server to store and retrieve the information about email and task of users. Spam Assassin and S/MIME protocol is used to filter the mail and to provide security from third parties.
The user interface and functionalities of Evolution are similar to Microsoft outlook express with features such as iCalendar support, full-text indexing of incoming mail and powerful email filters with ximian connector. The concept of “Virtual Folders” distinguishes Evolution from other email clients by automatically collecting all mails matching to the specific criteria to organize the data in a uniform way. PGP integration enabled the features of Evolution to handle the different types of mail and to percolate the necessary mails from junk mail.

It manages multiple POP, IMAP protocols and local email accounts to avoid network problems. It includes powerful HTML email templates to present the data in an organized way. It allows the user to prioritize the mail by creating groups, folders to coordinate and classify the message from junk mails. It grants user to flag the message (for follow-up, for example) to prioritize it.

Search Folders and Intelligent junk mail control
To control the inbox, Evolution uses Spam Assassin tool for junk filtering and to identify the bugs. To ease the use of junk filtering among the user’s community, it allows them to “Mark as junk” on the selected emails. So that when any mails received from same source, the application would move the mail to spam folder. To save the precious time and to provide precedence level for the mails search folder option is used. This tool helps to classify the mails according to the users wish.
Integrated security
Evolution includes support for signing and encrypting mail via GPG (GNU Privacy Guard) and S/MIME. Encrypting mail helps you protect your privacy and help those receiving your mail know it’s really from you. Evolution 2.0 includes a handy interface to help you manage your GPG keys and S/MIME certificates as well as a place to manage keys and certificates which have been shared to you.

Web Calendars
This feature allows user to mark the particular date as a remainder to do the task. The web calendars are similar to iCal in Mac.
Collaboration Server Support
Evolution supports both Exchange 2002/2003 and GroupWise. It can be configured to act as an exchange server and GroupWise client.
Multiple Account Management
Account management tools allows user to send, receive, manage and organize the messages from multiple email accounts or collaboration servers.
