Portable Software Updater is a freeware application for netbook users, that allows easy updating of all PortableApps.com applications. Portable Software Updater will help you keep your portable apps up-to-date.
One the main drawback of using portable applications, available from PortableApps.com, is that they don’t have any automatic update option. If a user wants to update the portable programs manually, they have to do that manually. This is a very lengthy and tiresome process. As the user has to open each program’s webpage every day to see if an update is available, waste time visiting the download page of the app, wait for the download process to finish, copy it to their portable apps folder and then run it.
For this reason, Portable Software Updater is developed. For each portable program, the user has four options: Check, Check & Download, Check & Run, Check & Silent Install and Don’t Check.
- Check will just check online for the program’s version
- Check & Download will also download the online version (if it’s a newer version than the one you have on your computer) to a folder that you choose (default is the desktop)
- Check & Run will download the online version (if it’s a newer version than the one you have on your computer) and run it
- Check & Silent Install will download the online version (if it’s a newer version than the one you have on your computer) and install it in the background without the need of help
- Don’t check will not check the online version.
To use Portable Software Updater (PSU) application, first download and place the PSU executable in the folder that has all the portable software folders. If the apps are placed in different directories, just click the application’s name and select the path.
It would be totally unnecessary to have PSU check the online version for apps that are not installed. For this reason, users can create a profile of their installed portable apps. Each time the Updater is run; this profile will automatically load, saving time of the user, from configuring PSU again.
