Do you want to run Android (Android-x86)on your netbook?
Check out the Android-x86 project which has stable versions of Android 2.2 ready to it on your Netbook. This is a project to port Android open source project to x86 platform which was formerly known as “patch hosting for Android x86 support”.
The project Android-x86 is designed to bring Google’s mobile Androis OS on x86-based devices. The latest stable version of Android released is Android 2.2 Froyo x86 (x86-Froyo), and is divided into five branches:
- generic_x86 : PC/notebook x86 generic
- eeepc : Eee Family based netbooks
- asus_laptop : compatible with some Asus laptops
- viewpad10 : ViewSonic Tablet, ViewPad 10 (may work on other tablet-based Atom processor N4 **)
- Sparta : Dell Inspiron Mini Duo
In addition to these five versions still in the “unstable” for Viliv S5 and vm for Virtual Machine (virtual box, qemu, vmware).
How to Install Android x86 on your Netbook?
Here we will implement the easy installer option for installing Android-x86 to hard disk. The supported file system include:
- ext3
- ext2
- ntfs
- fat32
You can also install/run Android-x86 to an NTFS file system that co-exists with Windows.
Here are the steps for installation:
- Burn the ISO image to CD-ROM or create a bootable USB disk
- Choose Android to Hard Disk item from Android-x86 installation from CD/USB
- Now choose an existing partition to install Android-x86, or “Create/Modify partitions”. Note: you can install Android to an external disk like USB. If the target drive is not shown, then you may try for “Detect Devices”.
- Now it can coexist with other operating system or with data in chosen partition. If it is showing partition formatted, you may choose “Do Not Partition” – in order to save existing data.
- Now install the Boot Loader Grub. The installer only creates boot-space and it on your system. If you want to boot other operating systems too, then just add the items to /grub/menu.lst manually.
- Now after sometime a progress bar appears showing installation process.
- After sometime, installation will be completed and you are ready to run Android on your system - run Android-x86 directly or reboot your system.
