SmartTab is a Alt+Tab replacement with much better features than the built-in Windows feature. In Windows, if you’ve got multiple windows open, [Alt]+[Tab] is the quickest way to switch between them. While it may be quick, it isn’t always the most efficient way and sometimes quite annoying too. The little icons that come up when you do Alt+Tab aren’t labeled, for example. So if you see several instances of the same icon, you will have to go through each of them before finding the one you are looking for.

SmartTab comes here to your rescue by taking Alt+Tab to a new level. After running it, you will find that the app doesn’t show itself. Simply, use Alt+Tab to find SmartTab working. You will find that switching between multiple windows becomes much easier with this app. You get names to go with icons, in addition to that, you have several ways to choose which task to bring to the front: click on the app, type in the number associated with a particular task, or even scroll through the list with your mouse wheel.
If you don’t like it or want to get back the old functionality, either kill its process, or restart your machine.
Features:
- All windows with small icons & full title at a glance.
- Activate a window either by using the regular alt-tab dance, or hit a key between 0 and 9 and a-z (choosing the window you want), or by clicking its title (useful when you’ve got your right hand at the mouse already), or by scrolling with your mouse wheel.
- Less resource hungry than the windows XP power toy alt-tab replacement.
- Configurable Colors (via a command line parameter)
- Highlighting of windows flashing in task bar (handy in combination with the XP task bar grouping)
- Works on Windows 2000 and XP.
- No installation required, completely portable.
